MICAELA BOTTARI is a New York based stage and production designer. Her approach to world building is driven by love of character, intention, and experimentation. She often works with found and recycled materials, particularly when designing for the stage, and is passionate about breathing new life into otherwise abandoned objects. Prior to designing, Micaela was a singer and musician with over ten years of performance experience. She leans heavily on her understanding of music, movement, and character development in the design process.

Her theater credits include Words of the Prophets (new work by Vayl Larkin), Breezy Point (new work by Rosie Coursey, nominated for Best Production by First Irish Festival), Busy Signal, Bright Half Life, and Indecent (Brooklyn College productions), Odds Are (Edinburgh Fringe Festival), and The Wrestle (nominated for Best Production by New York Theater Festival). Micaela’s film credits include production design for STAIRS, SHITHEAD (premiere at the NoBudge film festival 2025), Frankie Forever, When Daddy-Papa-Papi Died, Half Horse Half Man, Original Sound (Set Dressing), and Howl (Art Direction).

Micaela is a core member of The Why Collective, a NY based community of multidisciplinary artists who champion the development of new, accessible, and out of the box works. She is the designer for MIXT: A Living Gallery series, among other projects, and is a founding member of the Board. She is also a resident artist of The Flying Carpet Festival, which is a group of circus artists, musicians, and storytellers dedicated to the children who live in and around southern Türkiye. In 2025 she designed and built a traveling stage for the musicians, as well as performed in the show. In 2024-25, she was a resident with the Colt Coeur theater company, who develop new works in and around NY.

Micaela is an MFA candidate in Theater: Design and Technical Production at Brooklyn College, and holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Westminster Choir College.
